By Ollie Parsley in Apple, WordPress on July 7 2007

iphone wordpress

Content Robot have create a neat little plugin for any wordpress blog that will detect if the browser is the iPhone version of Safari then it will automatically reformat the site to fit the phone. The plugin replaces the current stylesheet and uses a specially made on that fits the screen and the style too. It’s similar to the WP~PDA plugin that recognises when you are using a PDA and also switches the stylesheet.

The features:

  1. Formats your blog content for optimized viewing on the iPhone.
  2. Automatically detects the iPhone’s Safari browser and only displays the custom theme to iPhone visitors, other visitors get your standard theme.
  3. Simple iPhone-like theme with common interface elements that compliments the iPhone’s internal applications.

Here is how they describe the plugin:

The iWPhone WordPress Plugin and Theme automatically reformats your blog’s content for optimized viewing on Apple’s iPhone. It detects the iPhone’s User Agent and serves up the content with the special theme only to iPhone visitors, all other browsers will view your WordPress blog with your current theme.

I would really appreciate it if someone could check TechJuicer on the iPhone. I am in the UK and will have to wait til Christmas til i can get one! Thank you.

Buy Me A Beer Widget!

By Ollie Parsley in WordPress on May 24 2007

BeerI came across a new widget for WordPress today. If you write your blog and don’t receive much appreciation for the hard work you put it. Then why not go get a beer! Better still go get a beer that someone else in the world has paid for!

This simple but cool little widget is availible from blogcout.com

All you do is enter your PayPal address, a price and away you go, just go to the widgets page and drag the “Buy Me A Beer” widget onto the side bar!

See i worked hard on this post so why not buy me one ;-)

WordPress 2.2 Released

By Ollie Parsley in WordPress on May 19 2007

WordPressA few days ago, WordPress released version 2.2 of its standlone software. This version has a few extra goodies including a new Blogger importer. I think this is them trying to shoe horn away some of Bloggers users. Also amung the new features is WYSIWYG support for Safari that was lacking in the last version. In addition there were also dozens of UI and accessibility improvements, ranging from more concise wording around options and links to things like a view and preview link above the content box when you’re editing a post or page.

The WordPress Blog says

On behalf of the entire WordPress team, I’m proud and excited to announce the immediate availability of version 2.2 “Getz” for download. This version includes a number of new features, most notably Widgets integration, and over two hundred bug fixes. It’s named in honor of tenor saxophonist Stan Getz.

Thye have also said that their development cycle has changed, they want to release major versions every 4 months and although this one was a few weeks late the WordPress team like their new process. So we will expect the new version in September, fingers crossed!

They said that the last version had 1.5 million downloads in less than 4 months. What blogging software do you use if any? This is just going to be a quick TechJuicer survey!

I also came across this video from CNET interviewing Matt Mullenweg:

1 Million WordPress.com Blogs

By Ollie Parsley in WordPress on May 16 2007

WordPressToday at some point the 1,000,000th blog will be created on WordPress.com. This does not include blogs created on independent servers using the downloadable software from wordpress.org.

Last August the site had just 300,000 blogs, 1.6 million daily page views and 14.2 million unique monthly visitors. CEO Toni Schneider says they now have 7.5 million daily page views and 45 million unique monthly visitors.

When you look at a comparison between WordPress.com and blogger you will see quite a big difference. This could be down to 2 things.

1. This does not take into account independent sites using WordPress software. Including these would drastically improve the stats.

2. They would actually be smaller!

WordPress Alexa Stats

Anyway, congratulations to WordPress for their success. I use WordPress software on my server and nothing has ever gone wrong with it so kudos from me! I wish TechJuicer was the 1 millionth blog. Think of the exposure.
