First Post From My iPhone

By Ollie Parsley in Announcements, Apple on November 15 2007

This is my first post written using my iPhone! I am in the UK and finally got my hands on one on the 9th of november. It seems to be doing alright. As we have all heard the keyboard is tricky to get used to but I am getting there already! Practice makes perfect. It is much easier to type like this in landscape view. Anyway I may well be using this method of blogging when it is inappeopriate to be using a laptop. Also its an excuse to play around in the amazing safari browser. It is alot better then I thought it would be. All my websites look great. One app I recommend is iflickr. You can get your photos immediately uploaded to flickr without touching anything! Anyway long may the novelty continue!

Movie Rentals Coming To iTunes

By Ollie Parsley in Apple on November 10 2007

Evan DiBiase has had a look at the code inside the new iTunes 7.5 release. Inside were 8 interesting lines of code that have given us a clue as to what is coming next from itunes. Movie rentals and video-on-demand, it appears, are now integrated into iTunes, just waiting to be turned on.These are the 8 lines he found:

rental-content

rental-bag

rbsync

source-rental-info

dest-rental-info

getvodaccountselectionlist

GET VOD ACCOUNT SELECTION LIST

supportsRentals

Apple has not announced anything on the movie rental or video-on-demand (VOD) front, but these lines suggest that these options may be turned on soon. It is not clear what the difference between a rental and a digital VOD would be. Perhaps the VOD option will be for Apple TV?

To me VOD and rentals are the bit that has been missing and this will make it a more rounded product to compete with NetFlix and those sort of companies. . Sounds like Apple is finally coming around to the realization that movies are for renting. Too bad Amazon and Netflix are already way ahead of Apple on the digital movie rental front.

iPhone Launched In The UK!

By Ollie Parsley in O2, Apple on November 9 2007

iPhone O2Yes this post is now being shown from 6:02pm and the iPhone is in the UK atlast! I got some inside information stating that the O2 stores are shutting at 2pm and then opening at 6:02pm. Why that odd time? Well the time between 2 and 6:02 will be for training for the employees. Do you expect them to be able to talk about every aspect of the iPhone from a few hours training? Are they doing this in every single store in the UK? Well probably not at my local O2 store is in Dorchester, Dorset which is the middle of the country.

Anyway by the time this message goes live at 6:02 I will possibly be in the store collecting my iPhone that I have reserved by talking to E.G from O2. Cheers!

Anyway I will update you soon on my phone. Orange want me to pay £290 to get out of my contract! NO WAY! So I will have some decisions to make when “activating” my iPhone!

I am going to try to make a small video of me and my iphone. If anyone would be interested! It will appear here as soon as possible.

gPC - The Green Personal Computer Stuffed With Google Software

By Ollie Parsley in Google on November 1 2007

Right everyone involved with technology has possibly heard rumours of a Google Operating System coming or eople asking for one. Well Everx are releasing a PC in WalMart for the price on $199! WOW. The PC is meant to be one to fight against emmisions etc. Hence being called the Green PC and not Google PC as many people will assume!

Now for that price you obviosuly do not get a screen! You can double that price if you want a nice sized screen. But you might be wondering what you get for your money. Well its pretty much hardware plus a linux operating system in a Google style. If you can’t picture that have a look at this image.

Here are the specs from the WalMart website:

1.5 GHz Via Technologies C7-D processor
Delivers energy-saving performance.
512 MB of DDR2 system memory
Offers good performance and is expandable to 2 GB.
80 GB hard disk drive
Provides space for documents, games, photos and music.
DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive
Lets you play DVDs and burn your own CDs for entertainment and data backup.
10/100 Mbps Ethernet
Connects to a local area network or broadband Internet devices.
gOS operating system
Enables you to use the supplied OpenOffice.org 2.2 software suite.

For fairly substandard hardware I’can;t see it being a porblem as everyhting basically runs online anyway. So it’s more your internet connection and the speed of the JavaScript on the machine.

What do you think?
