YouTube Videos On Apple TV

By Ollie Parsley in Apple, YouTube on May 31 2007

Apple YouTubeApple have announced that by the end of June all of YouTube’s videos will be availible to Apple TV users. This means they can search YouTubes entires catalog and watch on demand by streaming from the internet and wirelessly to their TV via the Apple TV set top box.

The Apple’s set top box device is one of a number of bunch of similar products designed to move digital content from a user’s computer to a TV set, a capability that is expected to open internet-based videos to a wider audience.

Steve Jobs, Apple Inc. chief executive said:

This is the first time users can easily browse, find and watch YouTube videos right from their living room couch, and it’s really, really fun.

YouTube is a worldwide sensation, and Apple TV is bringing it directly from the internet onto the widescreen TV

This system would definitely interest me as with more and more partners joining YouTube we are getting more free content then ever before. Plus as i am in the UK the Applie iTunes store only offeres music videos to download, not tv or films yet. But will Joost still takeover the world? I think outside the US Joost doesn’t have a close competitor. But in the US there should be some tough competition.

Any thoughts?

Reaction: Bill Gates & Steve Jobs Interview

By Ollie Parsley in Apple, Microsoft on May 31 2007

This post is my personal views on the Bill Gates and Steve Jobs Joint interview. See the video here.

Firstly I noticed that the whole interview was very civil compared to what the media had stirred up. I couldn’t find any real controversy at all, little bits here and there but nothing major.

There was quite a bit of humor that i wasn’t sure if it was nervous laughter or not! The joke about Bill Gates saying “I’m not the fake Steve Jobs” (all to do with a fake blog about Steve Jobs) . But also when Bill started describing when very early Apple computer there was some Microsoft software. When the question was asked Steve Jobs took a sip of water basically inviting Bill to start explaining. Then Steve butted in and i think made Bill look very small and Steve looked almost bullish. The audience’s laughter was clearly heard but I think that was a little dig by Steve.

Remember this is my personal opinion!

Mac TV Advertising
The next topic I am going to pick up on is the Mac Ad’s. As soon as the mention came of the ads cropped up Steve started on the defensive. I mean we all know the point in the ad is to make Apple look good. But from what Steve implied it was virtually an advertisement for both the machines in their respective environments, PC at work Apple and home. There was a big laugh after Steve said “the aim is for the guys to like each other” then looked over at Steve to imply they were the Mac and PC people. Then there was a bit of sarcasm from each of them, almost like they were using invisible daggers against each other!

Remember this is my personal opinion! I am not a psychologist!

iPod Verses Zune
Bill started off by saying that the Zune was “not a competitor to the iPod”. Sorry but come on Bill! Then Steve went on to say they love them “Microsoft” as they are all customers. Therefore suggesting that their employees buy iPods. Well they iPod amnesty bin might say it differently!

Their relationship
Their we’re both asked what their greatest misconception about Steve and Bill’s relationship was. Steve
took a line from a beetles song saying “you and i have memories longer than the road that stretches out ahead, and that’s clearly true here.” Basically people forget that they worked together when they were younger and just see them both as competitors just going for each other. “Awwwwwww” from the audience.

My Conclusion
That last saying really summarises the impression I have of them both. At the moment they do seem at each others throats but underlying it seems like they still get along. But on the stage Steve I think came out better.

This may not be the last you hear from me on this topic! Subscribe to keep up with me!

What are your opinions of the joint interview they gave?

Thanks

By Ollie Parsley in Google on May 31 2007

Google CheckoutGoogle is very quyickly enabling their tools on mobile devices. Recently we have reported on Google Calendar and Google Maps . The newest availible is Google Checkout, Google’s PayPal alternative. This news was announced on the Google Checkout Blog.

The only difference, for a buyer, is when checking out over Google Checkout mobile is that they verify themselves with a PIN as opposed to their Google account login (i.e. email and password).

Merchants who sign up today will automatically have the mobile functionality, however old merchants need to sign up for the mobile functionality - it is free. More details at http://checkout.google.com/support/bin/topic.py?topic=11659.

Google Aquires Panoramio

By Ollie Parsley in Google on May 31 2007

Google PanoramiaGoogle announced last night the acquisition of Panoramio to help continue to complete the Google Earth application.

In the last few months Google has used data from Panoramio on Google Earth. Users sign up, upload their photos and spatially enable them by choosing where in the world the photo was taken. Although this seems a step backwards from the new Street View they launched a few days ago, it should be a nice aquisition for them.

The Panoramio fron page has this to say:

Today, we are pleased to announce the planned acquisition of Panoramio by Google. This acquisition is a great opportunity for Panoramio uploaders to leverage Google’s reach, increasing the exposure of their photographs to photophiles around the world and for viewers to choose from a larger universe of photographs as Panoramio becomes more widely known. We hope to close the acquisition in mid to late June of 2007. Got questions? Go to Q&A to learn more.

Also on the Panoramio Blog you can see they are very happy! they also had this to say to reassure users that there will initally be hardly any noticable difference:

The upcoming acquisition will bring many advantages to Panoramio users, starting with a better infrastructure to improve the reliability of Panoramio, more frequent updates of Panoramio’s Google Earth layer, and more resources for some invisible tasks that take time out from working on new features.

I wonder what they are going to come up with next! You will hear about it on TechJuicer. Why not subscribe too keep up with the latest web technology news!
